I mentioned Prince Eugene of Savoy a few weeks ago in my posts about the Belvedere. Recently I had the chance to visit his home at the Winter Palace and was further intrigued by the man. The Baroque interiors include massive battle paintings, exactly as you’d expect from the home of a famous military general. But other parts of the palace are quite refined and charming.

The Palace is tucked into a street near the Stephansplatz and is rather unremarkable from the outside. But it has been turned into a modern art museum, with its lavish Baroque interiors maintained as well. Each of the exhibits focused on a light effect or other color change that highlighted the contrast between the Baroque design and the modern element. It made for a trippy but interesting visit.
