Lumphini Park is the urban green space in the heart of Bangkok. You never know when you will see scores of people doing tai chi in the grass or other people just soaking up the sunshine beside the lake. It is also home to monitor lizards of a rather shocking size, though they are apparently harmless enough. But harmless or not, if I’m walking in the park, and a giant lizard comes out of nowhere, I’m moving to the other side of the sidewalk. That’s basic self preservation.
